Create Sunflowers Card Tone-on-Tone

I fell in love with the beautiful Stampin’ Up Celebrate Sunflower stamp set and Sunflower dies. (or the Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle), however I am not a yellow fan!  I decided in the world of crafting a flower – any flower – can be any magical color you desire!!  Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle

These cards feature tone-on-tone technique (inspired by Kelly Atchison) by stamping the same colored ink on the same colored card stock.   The result is magically amazing.  I stamped the large sunflower all over the card base in the matching ink color.  I then flipped to the inside of the card panel and stamped the large sunflower in the corner in the same coordinating color.  I also dressed up the envelope with the same sunflower on the front lower corner.

I then die cut the sunflower in thin whisper white and edged it randomly with Wink of Stella for a little bling.  Who doesn’t love bling?  I also love the Elegant Faceted Gems and have been using them on everything.

The greeting was heat embossed with white embossing powder.  The flirty flamingo card (below) features the greeting complete with flagged ends using the tailored tag punch or the banner triple punch.  The coastal cabana card (above) features a new technique where I cut around the words following the curves of the letters!  Genius.

I have fallen in love with the gorgeous Stampin’ Up Create Sunflowers Stamp and Sunflowers Dies bundle; how about you?  Celebrate Sunflowers Bundle Product List

It is also part of a suite entitled Flowers for Every Season, which includes a ton of products including designer series paper (DSP), embossing folder, multiple stamp sets, dies, punch, and bling shown here: Flowers for Every Season Suite

Product List

The card shown above was made using the Create Sunflowers Stamp Set, the Sunflowers Dies, and a technique called direct-to-rubber coloring.  I’ve used some of the new 20-22 In-colors – Cinnamon Cider, Bumblebee, and Just Jade.  What is your favorite new color?  I love the Misty Moonlight and Magenta Madness.

Direct to Rubber Technique

When using the direct-to-rubber coloring technique, I could use Stampin’ Write markers or Classic Stampin’ Ink Pads (or ink refills) and a sponge or sponge dauber to color/daub/blend ink onto the red rubber stamp before I stamp on the card stock.  I’ve used this technique many times when I wanted to stamp a multi colored image.  It is especially helpful when I am highlighting or coloring certain words on a greeting stamp.

I started out by inking the sunflower entirely with bumblebee ink and then I daubed the early espresso and calypso coral inks directly on the red rubber stamp around the center of the sunflower.  I re-moistened the ink by huffing (applied my moist breath) on the inked stamp.  The ink can start to dry with the time it takes to apply all of the colors and breathing on the stamp moistens the ink.     To blend the colors, I used a blender pen and blended the bumblebee petals and then blended the calypso coral and early espresso inks.  I saw Patty Bennet demo the sunflower and fell in love with that look.

Finally, I folded the card using the “hinge fun fold”.  The cards can open bottom to top or from the side.

TIP:  Always check to see if your DSP is directional or has a pattern that needs to be cut a certain way.  Sometimes the DSP has no discernible direction and it won’t matter which way it is cut.

Celebrate Sunflowers Fun Fold Card

Celebrate Sunflowers Fun Fold Card

I love summer and the beautiful sunflowers are the epitome of summer. They stand so stately and majestic and who doesn’t love sunflower seeds!!

I decided to change up the color scheme for this sunflower card to a beautiful cool crisp Night of Navy and White. I love how the white sunflower pops off the navy background.

This fun fold card center navy panel flips up and provides another area to stamp a greeting or to write a personal message to your recipient.

TIP:  Always check to see if your designer series paper (DSP) is directional or has a pattern that needs to be cut a certain way.  Sometimes the DSP has no discernible direction and it won’t matter which way it is cut.
